List of interchangeable parts between Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis

Here is the list of parts that are compatible between both of these cars. We will also highlight the limitations in their parts’ interchangeability due to differences in some features.

Lights

The physical dimensions of the taillights of Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis are identical for the 1998-2011 years, and replacement between them will be bolt-on.

There can be minor differences regarding bulb locations and exterior trims, but they are not hurdles in the tail lights interchange.

You cannot swap between 1995-1997 models that have size differences. Corner lights among 2003-2011 variants of the two cars are interchangeable with minor modification work regarding wiring and mounting screws.

Headlights are not interchangeable because of differences in header panels and grille size. Therefore, you must also swap these body parts to make the headlights work and look aesthetically good.

Body parts

1992-2011 models of Crown Victoria and 2003-2011 variants of Mercury Grand Marquis have identical physical dimensions of the fenders. You can swap them with some changes regarding mounting holes.

The front doors of the two cars from 1992-2011 models have matching sizes and exterior looks.

However, there can be differences regarding wiring, power windows motors, and locks according to the availability of different features as a part of upgrade packages and trim levels.

Grilles alone are not interchangeable. However, you can swap them between 1992-1997 and 2003-2011 variants of these cars by replacing other front-end parts like header panels, bumper covers, and headlights.

Hoods are identical for the 1992-1997 and 1998-2011 years for both cars. Rear doors are interchangeable between 1998-2011 models. 1992-1997 versions for both cars have different rear doors, and you cannot put one for the other.

1998-2011 variants also have interchangeable trunks except for different reverse light panels.

In some cases, you will need to swap it along the trunk to make it close properly. You can interchange the mirror between the 1992-1994, 1995-1997, and 1998-2011 variants of both cars.

They share the same platforms for their construction, so they have other body parts like roofs, windshields, and quarter panels also interchangeable.

Interior components

1992-2012 model Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis seats share the same bolt pattern, and you can swap between them without any modifications.

However, there is a difference in wiring and sensors according to the trim level and other optional features installed. 2001-onwards Crown Victoria LX and Mercury Grand Marquis LS models have power 8-way driver seats.

They have a weight sensor under the cushion and a buckle switch on the seat belt. Therefore, you have to make wiring changes to turn off these features or alarms if you swap between the variants with different options.

You can swap the other interior parts between the 1995-2002 variants with minor modifications for some components.

There is a difference in dash panels from 2001-onwards models because of the change of location of the rear defrost switch from the left panel to the center and also completely different wiring harnesses.

Suspension system

Components of the suspension system, including front and rear shock absorbers, coil springs, and cross members, are interchangeable for 2003-2011 variants of both of these vehicles.

Moreover, police interceptor models of the Crown Victoria have stiffer springs and heavy-duty shocks.

Therefore, there will be changes in the dimensions of suspension parts, and you have to make modifications to install those parts.

For earlier variants, you can swap some parts within the same or adjacent year models with some modifications.

1998-2002 versions have front-end suspension interchangeable, including all components. However, again you should carefully look for differences in police and civilian variants of the Crown Victoria.

Engine parts

You can swap the engine components between all Ford Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis variants as they have 4.6-liter V8 engines from 1992-2011 models.

However, there is a difference in sensors, exhaust components, transmission sensors, PCM, and valves due to yearly upgrades introduced by the manufacturer.

Therefore, you should swap engines within the same model year or change wiring and sensors to cover the differences between different years.

For example, there is a difference in throttle bodies and PCM in the 2004 and 2005 models. Similarly, there is a difference in the oil pan, exhaust manifold, and EGR of 2003-onwards from earlier versions.

Furthermore, 2006-onwards variants have flex-fuel capability. Therefore, they have different fuel injectors and spark plugs.

To sum up, you can swap most of the engine parts between 1992-1995, 1996-2000, 2001-2002, 2003-2005, and 2006-2011 models of both cars as they have similar upgrades with minor modifications regarding accessories like exhaust manifolds, sensors, oil pan, and valve covers.

It is important to remember that you should try to keep the PCM from your vehicle as some later variants have anti-theft systems, and you will need to reprogram or tune it if you use that part from another car.

Transmission

There are incremental upgrades within the same transmission and engine options by the manufacturer every year.

Therefore, their functionality and electronics will differ despite the same gear ratios and physical dimensions. Consequently, you can swap it between Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis within the same model year without any changes.

You should more cautiously follow this convention for models after 2003 as they have increased instrumentation and computer-controlled features in 4-speed automatic 4R70W transmission.

Moreover, 2006-2011 variants have upgraded 4R75E 4-speed automatic in both of these cars. You can swap between them after taking care of electronic upgrades and PCM tuning.

Electrical parts

Electrical parts like cooling fan motors are compatible between 1998-2000 and 2001-2002 and 2003-2011 model years of Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis.

You can swap the alternator between the 1998-2003 and 2004-2007 variants of the two cars. PCM is specific for each year, and it is not feasible to swap without its tuning because of changes in instrumentation for each year and the availability of PATS in later variants.

Moreover, you can also interchange the spark plugs and ignition system between their same years as they have the 4.6-liter V8 engine.

The throttle body, EGR, and output shaft speed sensor are interchangeable for the 2003-2011 models of both cars. PATS is compatible with 1998-2002 variants with differences in key type.

Fuel System

Fuel pump assembly, including fuel sending unit, is compatible with 2003-2004, 2005-2008, and 2009-2011 models of Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis.

Fuel tanks are interchangeable for 1992-1994, 1998-2000, and 2001-2012 models with exceptions regarding different fuel models, especially flex fuel in 2006-onward variants.

Fuel injectors are interchangeable for the 1995-1997 versions of both vehicles. Returnless fuel rail and rail pressure sensors in 2003-2011 models are also swappable.

Other fuel system components, including hose pipes and fuel filler neck, are compatible with most years because both cars share the same fuel system.

What are the limitations regarding interchangeable parts between Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis?

While the Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis share many similarities due to their shared platform, there are certain limitations and factors to consider regarding parts interchangeability between these vehicles.

These can arise from differences in styling, trim levels, optional features, and specific updates made by Ford throughout the production years.

For example, the front grille design or bumper cover differs between specific model years or trim levels, requiring adjustments or modifications for proper fitment. The same is the case for headlights.

Moreover, there is also a difference in seat upholstery patterns or materials despite the same mounting bolt pattern. PCM, PATS, and other safety features are also specific to each vehicle and not feasible to swap without changes in programming.

Therefore, you should always consult the documentation, cross-reference part numbers, or seek advice from reputable automotive experts or dealerships to ensure correct parts interchangeability between them.
