The catalytic converters are the emission system of the Motorhomes, and they remove toxic gases and other such materials through their structural configurations. They work in coordination with the exhaust fan of the motorhome.

Do Motorhomes Have Catalytic Converters? The majority of  Motorhomes have catalytic converters with the exhaust manifold. They have higher efficiency in removing toxic gases and sulfur from the machinery. They are present in motorhomes for higher acceleration and excellent engine performance.

In the absence of these tools, the engine section gets excessive heat. The conditions can get out of control, and repair costs are expensive.

They work with the exhaust system of the motorhome engine. These tools work together and remove harmful gases. The internal machinery remains safe due to the presence of such devices.

They convert heat into a cooling effect for the machinery. The tools also remove the excessive heat that can damage the system drastically.

How to replace a catalytic Converter in a Motorhome?

The motorhomes work effectively due to these small tools. The installation/replacement process is for those structures that have a device in the exhaust system. 

Purchase a new catalytic converter

Buy a new catalytic converter according to the design and structure of internal machinery. Then, compare it with the old device, and it provides a complete layout to identify the right tool. 

You can also purchase them from RV shops with a variety of cost ranges. They are cost-effective products and are around $50 to $900.

Access old tool

Access the old device; it usually exists under the hood section. Then, open the hood compartment and find out the exhaust section. 

The exhaustion manifold comprises these structures. They have attachment with the help of multiple bolts.

All of them join with the converter and the head of the engine. The cylinder portion of the engine head contains such efficient tools. Read the manual and observe the pictures of this area.

Therefore, assessing such tools is convenient, and you can identify them without any external support.

Remove its parts

There is an electric wire system that can cover the exhaust manifolds. However, the pipelines and other lids are hindering tools in the assessment. 

The detachment of such components is essential to get access to the central system. Disconnect the electric wire system and detach the pipelines.

Remove the lids and keep them aside for future use. In few models, there are oxygen sensors that can detect the oxygen levels.

They also restrict the direct passage of the tools with their covering ability. Therefore, detach and remove such oxygen sensors from the exhaust section. 

The removal of such devices is essential during the replacement procedures. You cannot perform the process conveniently in the presence of such equipment. 

Use Grease

The greasing of the machinery allows the free-flowing of external tools.

Therefore, you can perform this method without any restrictions. The process remains safe, but you should wear protective gloves during such activities.

Use penetrating oil to grease the nuts and bolts in these sections.

Olive oil works best in such conditions, and you can buy it in the form of spray bottles. In the absence of such ready-made products, then convert the oil into a spray bottle. 

Adjust the nozzle on this tool and spray it at least 3 to 4 times.

Allow the penetration of oil and then leave it for at least 5 to 6 minutes. Then, it is beneficial for the soaking of machinery, and they become loose.

Spraying of the oil is necessary on all the tools of machinery. You have to spray the penetrating oil on the upper and lower screws. Access the bottom side of the exhaustion machinery.

Apply this product on the lower bolts and leave them in a soaking state. The oil absorbs in these dry tools mostly, and you can also clean the excessive material.

Use a lint-free fabric and wipe the excessive oil. Then, clean the surface and leave it for some time. 

Use lifting jacks

If you cannot access the exhaust section in the hood, then use other techniques. First, elevate the gigantic structure by lifting jacks and blocks.

Adjust them under the hood section and uplift the structure. It provides clear and reachable access to the exhaust machinery. 

The elevation depends on the design of these structures. In few models, the bolts of the exhaust machinery are not visible.

They require a high level for such procedures, and you can take the help of 2 to 3 friends.

The jack stands have enough ability to handle the gigantic structures with massive weights.

However, take the apparatus carefully and prevent yourself from harmful accidental conditions. It is an optional step for beginners especially. 

The access of bolts and nuts in the bottom section of the exhaust is not feasible for them. However, the experts can access them without even uplifting the motorhome.

Remove the old catalytic converter

Gather the tools that are essential to perform the removal of the old device. For example, multiple screws and bolts hold the exhaust on both ends.

Lose the exhaust and detach them completely. 

Discard the attachment tools and keep them aside. They are helpful in the future installation of the new device. Make sure that the machinery is stable on some supporting tool. 

It prevents breaking down and molding the hardware. However, the condition is not suitable because it can lead to accidental situations. 

The manifold of the exhaust becomes loose after the removal of all the screws. Pull it slightly to check the internal machinery.

Never apply an excessive amount of strength because it can detach it. 

Pull it outwards and discard it depending on the condition. You cannot use a damaged device for a long time. 

Add a new catalytic converter

The addition of a new catalytic converter involves various steps. It is a challenging process and depends on the internal condition of the machinery. 

You have to change the gaskets of the exhaust to reduce all types of errors. The installation of new exhaust gaskets removes the leakage of oil and discards other problems.

Install the new converter with the manual instructions. Then, take guidelines from an expert person in such activities. 

Few have a bolt system, and they have convenient installation. You can insert them inside the exhaust system and add bolts in all relevant openings. 

Tighten them to reduce any errors. In case you find the installation difficult, then take the help of an expert technician.

It prevents the system from errors and other technical issues. The professional person may cost you few dollars, but the investment worth the cost.
