How to remove permanent marker from car windshield? You can remove the permanent marker from the car windshield by applying aerosol hairspray, whole milk and detergent, glass cleaner, rubbing alcohol, terry towel method, acetone, and RD-40. It is essential to remove these marker stains because they can blur the visibility.

The marks reduce the shine of the front screen. Therefore, it is better to clean them quickly before it gets difficult to remove.

How do you remove permanent markers from the car windshield?

There are many methods to get rid of permanent stains depending on various factors.

Aerosol hairspray

Use a good quality aerosol hairspray to clean offending stains from the car windshield because ink and alcohol have identical chemical structures. Due to these properties, it works efficiently over the glass surface.

For a standard car windshield, purchase a standard-sized aerosol bottle. It is better to mix it well for about 3 to 5 seconds, spray around 2 to 5 ounces, and leave it for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Open its cap, set its nozzle towards the windshield, and apply a thin layer over the dried marks. Next, assess the side areas, tilt the bottle, and spray a thick coat.

Always apply a fine coat on glass because thick coats are not beneficial. To wipe the mixture of ink and spray particles, rub a soft, fiber-free fabric over the screen.

Whole milk and detergent

Take 30 to 50 ml of whole milk in a small plastic bowl and dip a small piece of cloth in this container. Squeeze it and spread it over the windshield to secure it with duct tape.

Leave it for 2 to 3 hours, allow the stain absorption, and remove it. For further stain removal, mix a few drops of detergent with warm water in a glass container.

Dip a piece of microfiber cloth in this mixture and rub it over the screen for 2 to 3 minutes in a circular motion. Then, hold the fabric, lift it to a certain height and expose the stains.

Repeat the activity by leaving the mixture for 3 to 4 hours and get the desired results.

Sprinkle cold water over the glass surface of your car and wipe it with a soft duster. Allow it to dry naturally for 5 to 10 minutes.

Terry towel

Take a glass bowl and add 50 to 60 ml of warm water to this glass.

Then, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda to this container and stir it for 3 to 5 minutes. Unfold the terry towel and soak it in this mixture for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Spread the wet towel over the stained surface and rub it circularly for about 20 to 30 minutes. Use a pipe with a front nozzle, pour water on the glass and wash it thoroughly.

Terry towel is free from chemicals wherever baking soda breaks the ink with its efficient chemical properties.

Do not apply this technique for dried ink marks because it leads to excessive rubbing and scratching. Avoid excessive scrubbing of terry towel because it cracks the glass surface.

Dish soap and vinegar

Domestic stain removers are cost-effective and efficient for fresh and permanent marks. For quick removal, add 10 to 20 ml vinegar and 1 to 2 tablespoon liquid dishwasher in a container.

Mix it manually and stir it with a plastic spoon for about 1 to 2 minutes. Take a clean sponge, dip it in the bowl and soak in the mixture.

Place this sponge onto the screen of your car, press gently, and keep rubbing for about 15 to 20 minutes. You should wipe the surface with a wet duster.

Dry for about 5 to 7 minutes and assess the difference. Always use cleaning vinegar instead of kitchen white vinegar because it has a higher amount of acetic acid with more cleaning efficiency.

You can use this technique for light color stains.

Rubbing alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is a perfect solution for permanent stains on the car windshield. Directly pour the spirit on the dried marks.

Use a soft fiber toothbrush and rub it on the front screen clockwise for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then, wipe the stains with one piece of fabric and clean it with another soft duster.

It is a safe technique that maintains the quality and shine of the glass. For urgent cleaning, apply a nail polish remover over the dried stains and rub it for 3 to 5 minutes.

Select a high-quality rectified spirit and polish removers to keep the glass intact. It is an efficient procedure and consumes around 5 to 7 minutes.

Glass cleaner

Glass cleaners are ammonia-based stain removers that can clean the windshield in 3 to 5 minutes. They are cost-effective with a diversity of brands and packaging.

Purchase it from any store and add 20 to 30 ml of liquid in a spray bottle. Wear protective gloves to repel ammonia allergies and protect your skin.

Then, apply it directly over the permanent ink marks and leave it for absorption. Ammonia breaks the chemical structure of the ink particles.

To remove the pungent smell, rub the surface with a clean and soft fabric. Keep the movements upside down and continue the activity for 3 to 5 minutes.

Gently rub the surface and avoid its cracking and sudden damage. Limit the spray onto the affected potion and never sprinkle it near the windshield.

Acetone

Acetone is a more effective solvent to dissolve the dried ink marks than alcohol and mineral spirits. However, you cannot directly apply this acidic liquid to the glass surface because it peels the paint of the vulnerable windshield.

For cleaning, assess the marks, scrap them with a fine scrapper and wipe the surface with a soft brush. Dip a duster in acetone, spread it on the marks, and allow the dissolution for 6 to 8 minutes.

RD-40

RD-40 is an efficient, high-quality commercial ink remover for glass screens. Purchase it for around $15 to $25 and prefer the bottles with spacious nozzles.

Clean the dry screen with a bristle-free brush, spray a thin layer of RD-40 on the glass and leave it for 10 minutes. Wipe it with a non-fibrous towel and protect the surface from damage.

What happens when you use a permanent marker on your car windshield?

A permanent marker changes the appearance of the windscreen, blurs the road visibility, and causes scratches on the glass. There are several markers available in the market with variable fiber materials.

With soft fibers, the marks are easily removable. But the fiber-containing inks produce permanent dried stains and change the screen look.

The windshield loses its gloss and smoothness due to chemical-based inks. Reduced road view leads to sudden accidents, inappropriate stalling, and bumping into road obstacles.
