Can You Put a Turbo on a Stock Honda Civic?

Turbo is a turbocharger that has a turbine and increases horsepower. Many people add it to the stock Honda Civic, which comes with a bolt-on adjustment and attach to the exhaust manifold.

Can You Put a Turbo on a Stock Honda Civic? You can put a turbo on a stock Honda Civic by replacing the old manifold, pulling off the clamps and bolts, and adjusting the new manifold with the exhaust studs. Fix it with the engine block, spin the turbine housing, and fix the turbo with the exhaust manifold with a bolt.

Stock Honda Civic is a car with a factory-installed engine and other parts. Therefore, it does not undergo different modifications and depends on OEM equipment.

What is the method to put a turbo on a stock Honda Civic?

Honda Civic has different models with variable engine properties. However, its variants comprise a 1.8-liter stock engine. It is a naturally aspirated motor with a long life expectancy.

You can install the turbo on your Honda Civic without a challenge. I have explained a detailed guide to install it on the exhaust manifold.

In this procedure, open the hood of your car. Access the intake manifold on the upper side of the engine. The intake supplies air and fuel mixture for standard combustions.

With a screwdriver, remove the clamps from the throttle body. These clamps can hold the silicone-based coupler. Remove the screws and remove the clamps.

Then, access the bottom side of the filter. At this point, a bolt connects the intake with the frame. Improve the frame level and get underneath the car.

The head studs and header attach with an alignment of twelve nuts. Remove 12mm nuts with a wrench of a correctly sized ratchet.

Then, approach the catalytic converter and count the three bolts. Remove them from the converter and detach them from the exhaust.

On the rear side of the block, approach the header, which comprises two bolts. Loosen the nuts with correctly sized tools and pull them from the bracket.

With this technique, you can remove the header from the frame. In the next step, install a new intake manifold in the exhaust system.

To adjust the turbo, apply a greasy material on the oxygen sensor and header. Pull it from the system and keep it aside.

On the O2 sensor, you can screw it lately. Furthermore, adjust the intake on the exhaust studs and fix it with the Honda Civic engine block.

Use the clock technique and spin the turbine housing against the central assembly. For this purpose, loosen the nuts and screws which connect the housing to the bottom side.

Rotate the turbine and tighten it in the standard mounting position. Now, adjust the turbo to the exhaust manifold with a bolt.

Tighten it manually and fit the turbocharger with the motor block temporarily. You can approach casting in these points.

Remove the casting and cut the attachment of the wheel. The manifold adjusts with the engine head. It fixes to the manifold correctly.

You can re-tighten the studs with the exhaust manifold. Check them manually and increase their tightening for stability.

Why would you put a turbo on a stock Honda Civic?

Several people use these high-performance turbochargers to increase the acceleration of their cars. However, due to the following reasons, you can adjust it on your engine in the Honda Civic.

More horsepower

A turbo on an engine increases horsepower on a stock civic due to its internal properties and functionality. However, it can increase the energy level from 32% to 39%.

With increased horsepower, the motor work efficiently. Its engines can produce a horsepower of around 138 hp. A turbo can add a horsepower of 75 to 155 hp.

Due to its adjustment, the smaller motors can work faster. As a result, they produce more energy and improve the speed levels of a car.

Due to improved power, its rotations per minute increase. In addition, it improves the torque of a motor which increases the acceleration range.

Due to its installation, the engine’s durability increases because it undergoes minimum wear.

Better combustion

A turbocharger is an efficient equipment that improves the combustion rate of an engine. Due to its built-in turbine, it can push excessive air inside the combustion compartment.

Furthermore, its turbine works as induction equipment and pushes the air with excessive compression. Compressed air is suitable for improving the speed of combustion.

Its installation can increase combustion by 15% to 35%. Due to the maximum combustion rate, the performance of a motor increases more than the standard level.

In addition, the combustion can rescue the corrosion from the different parts of the rotational motor.

It stabilizes the internal environment of the combustion chamber, which reduces the schedules of maintenance.

As a result, the internal stability increases the lifespan of the motor in your Honda Civic.

Reduced emission of gases

The emissions reduction is due to a turbo connected to the manifold. Also, it happens due to improved combustion.

Its turbine triggers more power from the diesel motors. Moreover, it reduces the emission of gases from the system.

Unlike the toxic gases, the turbine converts the diesel into water droplets. Also, it converts the emission gases into carbon dioxide.

Due to the lack of emissions, fuel consumption reduces. As a result, the fuel economy increases from the standard limit.

Reduced emission of toxic gases stabilizes the performance of the exhaust system. In such conditions, diesel motors do not idle frequently, which increases their shelf life.

Improved engine efficiency

A turbo can improve and ensure the overall performance of the stock honda civic. With correct compression of air, the combustions take place.

Due to its installation, the power output increases. As a result, it positively impacts the turbine and the capacity of engine cylinders.

Moreover, it pumps more air into the chamber. The availability of oxygen improves the efficiency of the motor.

For one engine cycle, the motor has more power. In addition, it can pull the environmental air due to the continuously working turbines.

The average cost to install a turbo on a stock Honda civic engine is about $1980 to $2076. However, the expense varies according to the installation technique.

It is an expensive and complicated procedure. You can take professional guidance to put it on the manifold.

However, a team of expert mechanics can charge according to hours. The average charges of labor are around $380 to $476.

For one hour, the mechanic can cost nearly $80 to $148. Moreover, you can purchase it for a Honda Civic for about $1250 to $1599. However, it is a time-consuming process due to its complexity.

The condition of the intake manifold determines the time consumption. However, a skilled person can complete the procedure in around 7.5 to 9 hours.
