It works with F150, F250, F350, and other Ford super-duty trucks. 

How do you use a Ford Integrated trailer brake controller?

You can use the truck and trailer simultaneously with the ITBC. The following is the correct method to use without a software error. 

For optimized performance, attach the trailer to the truck firmly. Incorrect connectivity reduces the efficiency of the controller and brake system. 

To ensure connectivity, check the screen and identify the option for navigation. It provides enough instructions for the attachment of the trailer with a truck.

Through the center console, you can identify the controller on the right side of the steering wheel. Then, access the voltage level and use it to supply power to the ITBC.

With minimum power, the brakes malfunction and lock in one position, causing damage to the tires. Access the display screen, open the menu and find the navigation apps.

Next, approach the arrow, push it two times, and assess the view of the rear trailer. Through the visuals, you can estimate the power transfer to the trailer. 

Also, apply brakes to check the connection between the truck and trailer.

What is the testing method for the Ford Integrated trailer brake controller?

Check the failure of different parts and identify the incorrect software messages. The following are a few methods to troubleshoot the ITBC without modifying the circuit.

Check the brakes

They have electric-over-hydraulic (EOH) brakes on the trailer for better performance. They use electricity to activate the electric motor that mounts in the actuator. 

The actuator receives signs from the truck controller, applies excessive pressure to the hydraulic brakes, and activates them. 

Due to the replacement of factory EOH, they malfunctions and cannot perform the braking. In such circumstances, use a 7-way tester and a high-quality adaptor that handles the voltage resistance. 

Next, approach the electric brake unit, and connect its white cord with the negative connector of the battery. Next, attach the black cord with the positive post. 

In such circumstances, the system clicks immediately due to electric power but does not run. Also, it indicates a malfunctioning until and requires instant replacement.

Test the electric passage and controller

For seamless trailer braking, the manufacturers launched ITBC in 2005. The controller can send signals to the trailer due to the loss of intermittent ground power. 

Incorrect use and electric fluctuations burn the controller switches and plugs. To check the controller, attach a multimeter and assess the voltage flow.  

Troubleshooting fuses

A 30-ampere fuse works for the ITBC and supplies power to the trailer brakes. The fuse blows due to excessive use, electrical surges, and pressure.

Sometimes, the control unit does not register the fuses. As a result, it results in the malfunctioning of the braking system. To test the problem, assess them in the fuse box and check the wiring with a circuit tester. 

Also, attach it with the four wires and check the current flow. Finally, change the faulty fuse and stabilize the braking. 

Test the connection messages

Software control and regulates the performance of plugs, electric wires, and ground connections of the Ford integrated trailer brake controller (ITBC). Due to faulty equipment, the software sends messages on the display screen and indicates the problems.

With the notifications, the driver can approach and repair the relevant equipment. Sometimes, all the fuses and wires work in their standard fitting points.

In such circumstances, the software needs an upgrade. First, check all the electric connections and replace the broken and burnt parts. Also, check the stability of the software and upgrade it with professional help. 

Faulty pin connection

There is a -pin connector between the trailer and the pickup truck. A broken or malfunctioning pin blocks the passage of electric flow.

In such conditions, the dashboard display shows a non-attached trailer. To test, a professional can connect a voltage meter with the pin connector. 

Check the connection of electric wires and replace the broken cords. Troubleshoot the problem to remove the message that says the trailer is not attached. 

Checking the malfunctioning relay

A relay is a small switch that turns on the controller. Sometimes, due to internal damages and wearing, the relay malfunctions. It cuts the electric signals between the cabin and the trailer.

Check it with a calibrated multimeter 

Adjust its Ohms and connect the cords with the electromagnetic coils. Stabilize the connection for 5 to 6 seconds and check the current flow. 

Next, calculate the resistance of relays according to manual instructions. The incorrect range of the relay indicates it’s malfunctioning. 

Troubleshoot display 

Sometimes the Ford display malfunctions due to a blown-out fuse and faulty electric circuit. To recover the seized or malfunctioning screen, check the power passage and remove the non-insulated wires.

Also, troubleshoot the built-in fuses, plugs, and relays. Test the electric passage that connects the display with the battery. Examine the flow of electric current and the stability of the circuit. 

Check the updates of the software and record them for correction.

It depends on the type of fault and available testers. The average time to test ITBC is around 15 to 20 minutes. 

It varies according to the expertise and knowledge of a person. However, you can troubleshoot the fuses in around 5 to 8 minutes. 

Testing software is challenging because it has unidentified errors. However, correct code reading and software assessment make the procedure less time-consuming. 

You cannot skip the steps of the testing procedure. ITBC is a sensitive device, and you cannot leave it without checking and repairing the faults.
