With its unique boxy design and affordable price, it has a considerable customer base evident from its presence for 3 generations from 2010-2013, 2014-2019, and 2020- present models. Moreover, it has several parts interchangeable between different years, ensuring ease of maintenance and upgrading its features.
What Year Kia Soul Parts Are Interchangeable? Kia Soul has interchangeable engine parts for the 1.6-liter I4 for the 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 models and the 2.0-liter GDi I4 engine for 2012-2015 models. Front bumper parts are compatible for 2010-2011, 2012-2013, 2014-2016, and 2017-2019 variants. You can swap the ECM for the 2017-2019 years, having a 1.6-liter I4 turbocharged engine.
We will also discuss the swappable components between the Kia Soul, Hyundai Veloster, and Hyundai Kona models sharing the platform.
Kia Soul interchangeable parts
The Kia Soul has gone through several generations since its production. Each generation has significant design changes, facelifts, and other upgrades, which affect part compatibility between different years.
Engine
The 1.6-liter I4 engine with multiport fuel injection system is interchangeable for 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 Kia Soul, while the same engine with direct injection system is compatible for 2012-2013 models for the US market.
The 2.0-liter GDi I4 engine from the 2012-2015 variants has compatible parts, and you can swap between them. 1.6-liter I4 with turbocharger has compatible parts or complete engine assembly for 2016-2019 variants.
For 3rd generation SUVs, you can interchange the turbocharged 1.6-liter I4 for 2020-2022 models and the 2.0-liter I4 multiport engine for 2020-2023 variants. Moreover, you can swap the same engine variants in model years with compatible transmission and exhaust systems.
Lighting components
You can replace its headlights for the 2010-2011, 2012, and 2013 models in the 1st generation of Kia Soul. They are compatible with the 2014-2016, 2017-2019, and 2020-2023 models of the SUV in 2nd and 3rd generations.
Front fogs are different in most years, and you should confirm the part numbers before going for interchange.
However, you can swap the taillights for the 2010-2011, 2012-2013, 2014-2019, and 2020-2023 variants. Turn signals and marker lights are swappable for 2010-2013, 2014-2019, and 2020-2023 years.
Transmission parts
The 6-speed Manual M6CF3-1 transmission is compatible with any 2.0-liter engine from any model year of Kia Soul. The same engine is also compatible with the 5-speed manual from the 2011 model of the SUV.
However, if you use a manual transmission with an engine from a vehicle with an automatic transmission, you have to change the ECM from the donor vehicle and reprogram it to make different functions of the SUV work, especially electrical systems and sensors.
2012-2013 variants with 1.6-liter I4 engine have 6-speed automatic A6MF1 while 2014 model has A6MF1-1 transmission and same is its compatibility.
You can swap the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) parts in the 2016-2019 and 2020-2022 models with a 1.6-liter I4 engine with a turbocharger.
The 2023 variant has a CVT transmission, and you can replace it for SUVs with a 2.0-liter I4 engine with a multiport fuel injection system.
Front end parts
In 1st generation models of Kia Soul, fenders are different, and you can swap for 2010-2011 and 2012-2014 variants. Other front-end parts, like the grille, are compatible for the same years.
Front end both upper and lower bumpers are interchangeable for 2010-2011, 2012-2013, 2014-2016, and 2017-2019 models in 1st and 2nd generation.
2017-2019 versions will require some modifications for the swap because of some design changes. The latest SUVs from 2020-2022 and 2023 also have the same front-end body parts. You can replace the hoods for the 2010-2011, 2012-2013, 2014-2019, and 2020-2023 variants.
Interior components
2010-2011 models have front bucket seats, and you can interchange between the same models without modifications. 2012-2013 variants have leather seats with a function for heating.
You can install them in the previous years after some modification work related to sensors and wiring. But since they are not very comfortable, I will suggest swapping them for other Kia vehicles or using aftermarket solutions.
You can substitute them for same-generation variants from 2014-2019 and 2020-2023. Other accessories like dashboard trim panels, center console, and armrest are interchangeable for 2014-2019 and 2020-2023 variants.
Instrument clusters, including speedometer and other gauges, are compatible with same-generation models with some modifications like electrical connections and changing the speedometer reading.
Steering parts
Steering wheel assembly with audio and cruise controls is interchangeable for 2010-2013 models of Kia Soul for both Base and Sport trim levels having 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter I4 engines. You can also swap it for 2014-2016 and 2017-2019 models, including the electric version of the crossover SUV.
The power steering motor assembly is the same in all 2nd generation variants from 2014-2019.
The steering wheel and column, including other minor parts and power steering assist motor with keyless start, are compatible with 2020-2022 and 2023 variants. Steering gear assembly and linkage are swappable for 2010-2011, 2012-2013, 2014-2019, and 2020-2023 variants.
Suspension system
You can replace its suspension parts, including strut assembly with coil springs, front control arms, ball joints, and rear shocks for 2010-2013 models.
There can be some differences in coil springs for the 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 models of the SUV. The first-generation rear has a solid bar suspension that is not good for a comfortable ride.
Therefore, people choose from a higher generation or other Kia or Hyundai vehicles. 2014-2019 Kia Soul 2nd generation variants have front control arms, suspension struts, and stabilizer links interchangeable with some variations for higher-end trim levels.
For 3rd generation, most suspension system parts, including shocks, spring coils, and struts, are swappable for 2020-2022 variants, except for parts like control arms and mounting bolts compatible for 2020-2023 models.
Rear end parts
1st generation Kia Soul models have rear-end body parts like bumpers and door handles are compatible with 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 models, while other components like rear trim panels are compatible with 2010-2013 variants.
Rear bumpers and hatch are suitable for 2014-2016 models. 2017-2019 variants have their panels redesigned but most probably have the same mounting points for rear-end parts, including trunk lid, bumpers, window panes, and glass.
You can replace various rear-end parts, including bumpers, the rear door, and other body panels, for 2020-2022 and 2023 variants.
Brakes
You can replace the front disc brake rotor and caliper assembly for 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 models, the wheel hub for 2010-2019 models for Base, Sport, and EV trim levels, and the front brake pads for 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 variants.
Parking brake assemblies for the 2010-2013 Kia Soul are compatible for swap. For 2nd and 3rd generations, disc brake rotors are interchangeable for the 2014-2023 models, while other parts, including caliper assembly, parking brake parts, and ABS sensors, are substitutable for 2014-2019 and 2020-2023 variants.
CV axle shaft
CV axle shaft and its parts compatibility depend on other parts of the drivetrain system, engine, transmission, and suspension components.
You can swap them for 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 models of Kia Soul. Later models of this crossover utility vehicle from 2014-2016 and 2017-2019 have axle components with the same drive configuration, and engine types are compatible.
Moreover, all SUVs in the 3rd generation from 2020-2023 have the same front axle parts for left-hand drive with a 2.0-liter I4 engine and automatic transmission options.
PCM
Its powertrain control consists of numerous sensors installed at the engine and other systems and the Engine Control Module (ECM).
Most of the sensors, like crankshaft position sensors, camshaft position sensors, and MAP, remain the same for all model years of the vehicle or at least within same-generation models. ECM is specific for engine options and the type of transmission available with the car.
You can use it for the 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 variants of Kia Soul with a 1.6-liter I4 engine. However, its functions are different for both manual and automatic transmissions, and you should look for one from a vehicle having the same type of transmission.
2017-2019 SUV models also have interchangeable ECM with 1.6-liter I4 for both naturally aspirated and turbocharged engine variants.
You can swap it between the 2021 variant with manual transmission and the 2020-2021 model with automatic transmission for a 2.0-liter I4 engine.
Interchangeable parts between Kia Soul and Hyundai Vehicles
Hyundai is the major shareholder of Kia, and therefore, you can expect parts similarity between vehicle models from both manufacturers to reduce production costs.
The 1st generation Kia Soul and Hyundai Veloster are based on the same platform with minor differences in their widths. Therefore, most parts related to the chassis, frame, suspension, and some engine parts are interchangeable.
The 1.6-liter GDI turbo engine in Veloster is also compatible with Kia Soul models during the same years. 3rd generation Kia Soul models share the platform with Hyundai Kona models. You can swap the 2.0-liter engine parts between the 2021 variants of both vehicles.
Moreover, as both belong to the subcompact SUV category, you can change other features like suspension, brakes, and transmission systems between the same years.
