How to Install a Lift Kit on a Truck?

Here are the 14 easy steps to add a lift kit on your truck. The lift kit provides the high performance of off-road vehicles like all types of trucks.

How to Install a Lift Kit on a Truck? You can install a lift kit on a truck by lifting the truck, remove the metallic bars and detach all the brakes, lower the axles, install the lines, add springs, shocks, and add new wheels. It takes around 1 to 2 days to add a lift kit to a truck.

How to Install a Lift Kit on a Truck?

A lift kit of a truck is also known as a suspension kit. It helps in bringing the truck to a higher level. The performance becomes better in multiple ways when you go higher.

There is a particular method for installing the lift kit in the trucks. The method comprises many steps, and they are as follows.

Things needed

  • Use a jack of accurate size (it must have the capacity to carry 1 ton at least).
  • Use stands of the jack to control the side frame of the truck.
  • Use wood blocks of appropriate weight and size.
  • Air compressors and tools for support and precision.
  • A bar for breaking.
  • A pipe of approximate size.
  • Tool kit for lifting.
  • Support of one to two men.

Lift the truck

There are few nuts alongside the frame of the truck. First of all, loosen them all one by one. Never take out these nuts from the body of the vehicle. Start the process by using a jack. It must comprise the hydraulic nature in it. This will also help you to squat your truck.

Lift the truck to a higher position, and it must be a maximum one. Place the lift stands under the structure, place the stands right under the surface of the truck’s body. They provide essential support to the trucks. The process starts removing all the nuts and bolts from the frame of the truck’s body.

There are some pro tips for this specific step. Follow these instructions carefully because it is an excellent step of the whole procedure.

Make sure the stands are on a stable surface. Do not allow the dwelling of the structure on these stands.

Use a spray that has a greasing quality. Spread the spray material on all the nuts, and it helps them to loosen up overnight.

Always use the high lift jack with maximum capacity and support. Lifting a truck to a higher level is a challenging process, and you require precision in it.

Remove the bars from the truck structure

There is a metallic bar on the front side that is known as a sway bar. Lose that specific gadget and remove it from the structure of the truck. Insert it in one corner because you are going to use it again after a while.

The bar of the track is usually inside the frame bracket. Multiple bolts support this connection. Use a wrench and unscrew all the bolts and nuts from this specific area. Move to the bolts of the lower shock and use a screwdriver for the detachment.

Remove the arm of radius from those trucks which are heavier. The vehicles with immense suspension also need this process. Carry out this whole step with precision and professional expertise.

Read the manual carefully or consult with an expert person. There is a sensor clip on the front side of the wheel. In the heavy truck, removal of this clip is essential. Remove it and put it on one side for later use.

Detach all the brakes

The bracket of the hose is usually with the axle. Carry out the removal of this part with intensity and force. You cannot move ahead without doing it. Remove the mounted brakes from the brackets one by one.

The lift kit provides new tools, and that’s why you can easily discard this one. The hard-line contains many nuts and screws. Use a screwdriver for this procedure and lose them all. Start rotating the block in the direction of 180 degrees.

At this stage, tighten the nuts again without any hesitation and break. The step helps in the prevention of stretching inside the truck.

The kit of extension requires these features in the pickup. One of the main points in this step is the bolt removal and disconnection of the brake from the hose plus axle.

Lowering of axles

There are multiple axels and arms inside the trucks. It is necessary to remove few parts from these areas. Pull the axle of the front position with your hand. Adjust it so that you can easily take the coil of spring. This is a must when adding a lift kit to your truck.

The spring mounts inside the space of the shock and the replacement are necessary. The lowering of the line shocks allows the expansion of the spring coil, and you can bring it out by hand.

The bump stops the bracket, and it comprises a whole factory. Remove this from the truck’s body and keep it aside. Now proceed to the screws of the factory radius. These are usually present on both sides of the truck’s structure. Remove both of them, as you cannot keep one in the process of installing a lift kit on the truck.

There are some professional tips for performing this step:

1: It is not essential to remove the pitman’s arm, but it makes the procedure convenient.

2: Access the place where the five bolts are holding the bar of the track.

3: As you want to access the pitman’s arm, locate the single bolt that connects the steering wheel and the arm. Remove it, and then the access becomes efficient than ever before. It is a beneficial and helpful tip for those who are doing the whole procedure on their own.

Removal of metallic bars and install the lines

The steps start with the removal of a group containing bolts. These are in a power position and hold the system firmly. The loosing and removal provide multiple advantages.

The bolts are present in symmetry, and you can reach them easily. Two of the screws with their specific caps are present in the frame of the entire structure. The three bolts are usually in the front areas and the best holding positions.

Remove the track’s bar by removing these screws, and start the installation right after the completion. Take a new bracket of relocation from the new lift kit, and insert it inside the structure.

Prepare the truck for the bar of the track

Bring the bar of the hardware track that you have placed at one corner. Re-adjust it inside the system of the hardware in the truck.

Install the springs and shocks

You cannot install the springs inside the hardware area without supports. Always purchase a spacer of the lift and install it over the top of the small device. Move it upwards and then drag it to the backward direction by pushing it to the axle’s pad.

Never lift the axle area immediately and start the insertion of springs. Assemble the springs in the pocket area.

It is an essential step, and use an isolator of the spring and install it on the top side.

Important point:

1: Always use a good quality spacer for the spring.

2: Always adjust it at the top corner because it has more tight areas. Add the extension of the shock

Few kits allow the reuse of the previous shocks of the truck. The pro tip is that always use the new hardware shocks because it helps in an excellent performance. The new shocks for your truck not only increase the efficiency of the vehicle but also help in up-gradation.

The expert tips are:

1: Keep the extensions in the lower direction, and it makes the process convenient.

2: It helps in the recycling of old shocks.

3: In case the shocks are high performance, then they do not need the extensions. The new shocks are beneficial in a single form.

Add the bar and bumper

Always use the new bump and new extensions of brackets. They give high power and speed to the truck. At the higher position, the vehicle provides maximum performance.

The line extensions of the bumps are so easy to install inside. Add the bar of sway inside the system, and keep them together. The stop extensions work with the brackets of the stop.

Install the lines of the bracket

Bring the kit in front of you and bring out the extensions of the line bracket from it. Start the process of reinstallation at the axle pad. Add all the brake lines and then move towards the security.

Use a clip for better protection and security of the line. Tighten all the screws and shock lines using the proper equipment.

Add the sway bar and pitman’s arm

This step is all about installing the sway bar and pitman’s arm. You need to follow this step if you have removed the pitman arm for convenience. Install it in the link of the driver and start rotating it. Do the mounting in the bracket of extensions.

Add New wheel spacer

Install new wheel spacers for maintenance and correctness. The spacer is inside the lift kit, and this step helps in front lifting.

Rear jacking and removal of axle plates

Use the casing of differentiation and lift the wheels of the truck. Insert wood blocks between the jacking area and differential spacing. Maintain the stability of the truck.

Bring the lower plates of the axle to the blocks.

Add new blocks

Ass new blocks of U-shape inside the truck, and these are present in the lift kit. Adjust them in the spring area by considering the front and rear areas. Add bolts over the top leaf area of the spring and tighten them all.

New truck wheels

It is an optional step, and you can add new wheels. The lift kits allow thirty-two to thirty-three inches wheels.

Start the vehicle and move the wheels by the steering wheel. Double-check the whole process and tight the bolts once again.
